Making Democracy Work
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. It neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties. Membership is open to all women and men who subscribe to its purpose.
LET'S CELEBRATE OUR HISTORY
On Sunday afternoon, January 31, League members, friends, and interested public are cordially invited to a party to celebrate the 90th Birthday of the League of Women Voters of the United States. This event is sponsored by the Bergen County League (ILO) and takes place from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Paramus Public Library, 116 Century Road.
The program will include recognition of past presidents of the InterLeague Organization as well as tributes to those no longer with us. Closter Mayor Sophie Heymann, an early ILO president, will discuss our pioneering work in the area of Affordable Housing and other early projects. There will be a display of the many publications produced over the past four decades. Do you have a story to share?
Come and join us for an afternoon of fun, food and fellowship as we take pride in our historic accomplishments and look to the future.
Please RSVP by Monday, January 25 to lwvofbc@yahoo.com. |
